According to plan Gorontalo province will hold Gorontalo Karawo Carnival on 6 October 2019. This carnival will include many activities and performance featuring typical fabrics from Gorontalo known locally as “Karawo”. To introduce Karawo to the whole world, the Gorontalo Provincial Government has prepared a number of interesting activities, such as the karawo family song, musical performance, carnival and photography competition. However the highlight event will be the Karawo Fashion Festivals.

 

Karawo is a traditional embroidery fabric that can only be hand made by the local. There is no form of machine that can be used to create this unique artwork. Previously, Gorontalo woman only used flower motifs to create this type of fabric. However over time, they innovated with bird design and logos. The center for making karawo fabrics in Gorontalo is in the Telaga Jaya sub-district.

 

Gorontalo Karawo Carnival will also include competitions for fashion designer and models in four categories: Muslim Fashion, formal dresses, casual clothing and office clothes. This fashion event will be a great opportunity for young Indonesian fashion designer to show off their skills.

 

In addition to popularizing the fabric of “Karawo”, it also aims to attract tourist visiting Gorontalo. By organizing this carnival, it can bring in more tourist than in previous years which will have an impact on improving the economy of fashion designers and the local community
